Why USL?
A School for Curious Students Who Love to Learn

Developing Good Humans
USL is a trailblazing independent school where curiosity, compassion, courage, resilience, and a strong work ethic are hallmarks of every graduate. We are growing a community of scholars, leaders, and global citizens who think critically, act with integrity, and serve with empathy—prepared not only to thrive in a complex, interconnected world, but to shape it for the better.
Global Mindset
We are intentional about developing informed global citizens. Daily experiences include bipartisan review of world news and events, multicultural experiences, including introductions to multiple faiths in our LOTC (Learning Outside the Classroom) program, along with Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin language programs to foster deep understanding of the world.

Practical Life Skills
Preparing students for adulthood means embedding practical life skills in how we teach. Students learn daily physical fitness, self-defense, how to change a tire, financial literacy, Red Cross training, and genuine leadership. They learn to manage their own emotions and understand others'— the foundations of a confident, capable human being. This happens across all divisions, so graduates show up in the world with competence, resilience, and kindness.
Discourse & Civility
Our admissions process identifies students who are high-achieving, curious, and motivated. Active listening, critical thinking, proper etiquette, and kindness are key elements of school culture. Our students carry packages for teachers, shake hands, remain open to multiple points of view, and are kind to one another. We read banned books, discuss why they've been banned, and encourage curiosity in every subject.
