Nicole Brockman

Head of University School

Nicole Brockman is the Head of School at University School of the Lowcountry (USL.) She has been deeply devoted to the school's faculty, students, and families for more than 15 years. For Nicole, USL has long been more than a workplace, it has been a second home.

Nicole initially graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Biology before earning a BS in Mathematics and Education with honors from NC State University. Her teaching career spans over two decades of guiding children across public and independent schools. Since joining USL in 2011, she completely redesigned the mathematics program. Under her guidance, USL’s math team dominated state competitions for 15 years, capturing 14 first-place state championship titles and twice sweeping all divisions. Her exceptional impact earned her the 2017–2018 SCISA Middle School Teacher of the Year award and the 2022–2023 SCISA Middle School Math Teacher of the Year award.

Nicole remains deeply inspired by USL’s students and the school's unique ability to integrate daily service into its curriculum, a feature of the school that she holds incredibly close to her heart. She is a proud single mom to two amazing daughters, Evie and Riley, who are currently attending college out of state. Nicole lives in Charleston with her notoriously crazy black cat, Calcifer. Now that she is navigating the empty-nest chapter, she uses her free time to travel and explore new destinations, hit the golf course to work on her game, or continue fueling her passion for education through math tutoring.
