Nan teaches she sees children for who they are and intuitively understands deeply what each child needs to become the best version of themselves. That gift of seeing clearly shapes everything she does, both in her classroom and as Director of Intermediate School.
A renaissance woman who loves words and messaging, Nan brings a sophisticated understanding of how language shapes thinking and how communication matters. More importantly, she understands how the brain actually learns. Her lessons aren't built around a textbook or a curriculum timeline — they're built around neuroscience, movement, and real engagement. She has spent years studying how students learn best, including teaching graduate courses on teaching and learning through movement.
Nan's passion for high-achieving learners comes from years of experience: she taught in Montgomery County, Maryland's Center Programs for the Highly Gifted, a program designed to enrich, accelerate, and extend curriculum for students who needed more. That background informs how she approaches every student at USL — meeting them where they are and pushing them to grow.
As Director of Intermediate School, Nan extends her philosophy beyond one classroom. She shapes the entire Intermediate experience around seeing each child clearly and building a community where curiosity flourishes and every student feels known.
