Arts

University School offers weekly art classes with faculty member Nancy Amis. These classes are designed for immersion in multiple media and forms of expression, and they allow for each student to develop and gain confidence in his or her artistic ability. Students also learn and create art projects related to their studies in their classes, especially Global Languages and Humanities. We also offer an after-school Photography Club with Jaime Zollars.

In addition, we engage in collaborative opportunities in the arts with community partners like Redux Contemporary Art Studio, ArtBuzz Kids, and other arts organizations. In addition, USL regularly hosts cultural performance groups and shares these events with the greater community. Download the 2018-2019 Cultural Events schedule!

Students Visit Gibbes

Several of our Learning Outside the Classroom experiences are also arts-focused. University School students attend 3-4 cultural performances each year at the Gaillard Center, Dock Street Theatre, and more. What distinguishes USL is how students are taught to be grateful, courteous, empathetic, and curious, and this behavior is on display in these public forums.

“Your kids blow away our staff here! Out of the thousands of students that come through, University School stands out. Your children are respectful, well-spoken, kind, and leave a wonderful impression.”
-- Sterling DeVries, Director of Education at the Gaillard Center
