You know from our monthly E-newsletter that experiential learning continues to provide the foundation for the way we teach inside and outside the classroom at University School.
We are growing, and our needs are changing too. Our academic offerings now include lab sciences for our Upper School students, and our 3rd-8th graders would love some new opportunities to experiment on campus.
This is of deep personal significance to me as well. The one year anniversary of my mom's death recently passed, and I have been reflecting on her legacy and how I can honor it. I remember in 9th grade my mom memorializing her parents with science and gym enhancements at the Milwaukee German Immersion School. As most of you know, both of my parents were physicians and very passionate about science. Creating the Doctors Karen & Albert Kreutner STEAM Center will truly celebrate their memory by enhancing our science curriculum.
I'm writing today because we need your help to support our "learning by doing" philosophy in our science and math classrooms!
OUR GOAL: $45,000 to purchase:
- 2 Mobile Science Lab Workstations ($2,500 each)
- Ancillary Equipment and Supplies (test tubes, beakers, an eyewash station, etc.)
- 3 Promethean Interactive White Boards ($5,000 each)
- Improvements to the Long Room, where science classes are taught
- iPads for our Intermediate School math classes ($300 each)
We're calling on alumni, their families, and friends of USL to make a gift to this challenge in celebration of the impact USL had on your life.
If each person on our alumni list makes a gift, we can achieve our goal and purchase this new equipment before the school year ends. Your gift will help our current and future students get the most out of their learning at USL!
Please take a look at the photos to better understand what we have in mind.

If you're ready to make a gift to the STEAM Center Challenge, you can do so online via PayPal or send a check to the school (P.O. Box 665, Mount Pleasant, SC 29465) marked STEAM Center. No gift is too small to make a difference when it comes to our students' learning.
Thank you for your support as we continue to offer our students hands-on learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom.
Sincerely,
Jason Kreutner
