Annual Election Day Exit Polling- Volunteers Needed!

November 8 @ 8:00 am - 1:30 pm

Parents are needed to help teachers drive and chaperone students to two precincts in Charleston County as students interview citizens after they finish voting.  Help is needed from approximately 8:00-1:30.  If you are interested, please let Tasha Tirpak know.  She’ll let you know everything you need to do, including the process for helping to drive students, etc.

Background:
** In 2020 our oldest students answered the call and created a Youth Poll Worker program.  There was national concern about polls staying open when traditional older poll workers were concerned about the pandemic.  There were 54 sixteen and seventeen year-olds who were poll workers in Charleston County, and we were responsible for 30 of them.  This program continues, and we want our oldest students doing this instead of exit polling.  Here is a WCBD-2 video about our program (Lowcountry students sign up to work as poll workers on Election Day”).  This is a paid position (and students will actually complete the process to become an employee of Charleston County), and our veteran student poll workers will help them and others navigate the process.
Charleston County still needs 300 more poll workers.  Interested or know others who may be?  Please contact our student leaders for this effort, Kessler Kreutner-Eady and Bennett Gilhuly, by email at pollworker@uslowcountry.org
