10/7 (Fri.)... At 8:30 AM in the library, Mrs. Coll will lead a meeting for parents interested in learning more about the process of researching, visiting and deciding on the right high school for your child. This session will include tips for all 8th grade parents concerning the process and also a presentation on the important dates throughout the Fall and Winter at our local area high schools.

10/14 (Fri.)... CULTURAL PERFORMANCE- we are sharing our performance of Sticks and Stones by Porkchop Productions with A.C. Corcoran Elementary in North Charleston. The show is a light-hearted romp through a very serious topic that children face. Told in Porkchop’s signature whimsical style, this performance addresses the major steps to implement when confronted with a bully. It will be performed at Corcoran, and the USL community will travel there to view it with the elementary school students. The idea to host a USL cultural event at another school was an idea that emerged from the Intermediate School during the 2010-2011 school year.

10/15-10/20 (Sat.-Th.)... University School Middle School students and faculty/parent chaperones will travel to Washington, D.C.. We will explore the history of the area, 1-2 colleges, significant American memorials and museums, and the unique culture, landscape, and foodways of area. Of special note will be the political aspects, especially with the 2012 presidential election on the horizon.

10/16 (Sun.)... The USL community will have a game booth, assist with the CARTA info booth, and help with clean-up at the Mount Pleasant Children's Festival at Park West Recreational Complex (12 PM-5 PM)

11/6 (Sun.).....As part of an optional family LOTC day, USL will take a day trip to Yemassee in Beaufort County to visit famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright's Auldbrass plantation. Owned and restored by Hollywood producer Joel Silver, it is open for tours every other year for only two days. * Click here for a slideshow of our visit from 2009.

11/15 (Tues.).....USL community gathering for the James Island County Park's Holiday Festival of Lights

11/21 (Mon.).....MS students will bring food dishes for a USL community lunch celebrating another culture

12/9 (Fri.)...Students & Mentors Activity - USL students and mentors will enjoy a movie (the annual showing of Home Alone), games, and food in the gym from 6:30-8:30 PM. This is the special Winter Break edition. We also ask that each student bring a few durable food items that we will donate to the Lowcountry Food Bank and Holy Trinity AME Church. We are friends with the Lowcountry Food Bank and Pastor Brown at Holy Trinity AME Church on Mathis Ferry in Mount Pleasant (we visited both places 2 years ago and gave food donations to them), and it would be great if we could provide some durable food items to them for the holidays. This will be the start of a nice tradition to institutionalize our support of the Food Bank and the food outreach efforts of HT AME.

1/21 (Sat.) ...Optional Family LOTC to the Charleston Chinese Association's Chinese New Year Celebration.
